Teak Table Top Tips?

Bretagne table from Onward Trading
But anyone considering this should think about whether they are happy with the table's legs getting in the way of diners' legs when eating at the table. I would recommend a super sturdy single central pedestal, or pair of pedestals on a big table

Thanks for another steer in the right direction! Funnily enough we did speak with the crew at Marine teak at the London Boatshow. We knew then that we were going to need a table. We asked if they had some tables without the caulking. All personal taste of course, but like you, I want caulking on my decks and not on my table. We were surprised to be told that there were none and that plain teak tables dont sell. I really thought a trick was being missed.

I have used a Bretagne table from Onward Trading for many years , its in good nick, has rounded feet and does not scratch floors or decks.

Thanks Bandit. Thats the sort of thing I originally had in mind. We are hoping to squeeze 4 chairs around it so now thinking that a central pedestal with the extra leg room is going to make sense.

Haha! They don't sell for marineteak because marine teak don't push them! Look at yachts generally and you'll see uncaulked tables outnumber caulked tables by perhaps 1000:1

Marine Teak will build you a completely custom table now, size, shape, depth, no caulking etc etc. http://www.marineteak.co.uk/custom-tables-52-w.asp
Yep but that is nothing special. There are loads of good teak firms that will make you a custom caulk-free table. Wattsons, teakdecking plymouth, moodys, for example. They have been supplying boat owners and boatbuilders for decades

How big do you want it? This may be suitable if you're not looking to maximise table area, and with no disrespect to Marine Teak it will be a different level in terms of quality.

I have wheels on one edge of my table base, cantilevered out and slightly above floor level, so I can lift one side of the table and wheel it around. You need to access the laz quite often, so the wheels are a big benefit. I'll try and dig out a photo and post it.

I bought some folding chairs from Onward as well they are good teak chairs and fold up well but they don't seem to do the same chair anymore.

As for care I just wipe them down occasionally with damp cloth and wine, salad oil, beer suncream etc come off fine, I have some teak treatment from them but I have never used it.

They have a shop in Southampton somewhere? The also exhibit at the Southampton Boat Show.

Thanks Nick.
The Wattson table does appear to be an absolute bargain. May be just a little small for me though.
