I need to buy some burmese teak or similar to replace caprails. I need about 4 8 foot planks/boards of 8''*1.5''

Given the fall in the euro against Sterling and a prospective trip to Cherbourg to buy a few bottles of wine, does anyone have details for a timber supplier anywhere along the channel coast.

Tony.

It'll still be cheaper in UK. Even though the exchange rate is favourable, boaty things are still more expensive in France due to all the social charges that companies have to pay. I live in France, but buy just about everything for my boat from UK or Germany. Even the P&P charges from Germany or UK to France are less than French online dealers charge.

Not sure now but a few years ago Holland was the biggest importer of hardwoods in Europe. When we lived there it was easy to pick up beautiful timber at quite low cost. Most ports have a boat builder who can supply, I had a new tiller made in Stellendam for ridiculously low money.

Thanks.

Probably too far but maybe they will deliver, do you have details.

It was worth my while to take the car ferry across from Hull and buy a sheet of teak-faced ply, rather than pay UK prices. Their yard was full of all sorts of woods including plenty of teak.
