Hello, sea gypsies!

We're hoping to make up some bits for the boat ready for the new season. Most bits we can do in marine ply, of which we have found a supplier. However, we were hoping to make up a cockpit table, which would need to be in teak or some equivalent hardwood. This we haven't found, yet.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? (Aside from having it shipped from the UK!)

There's a timber yard on the road out of Corfu town just past the airport on the left hand side going out of town. Can't remember the name but it's an obvious timber yard. They had iroko a couple of years back that I used to make a crackpot table. Had to buy a complete plank of it but they cut and planed it to my measurements, left me with a bit about a metre and a half long after the table. Cost about €70 IIRC. You might strike lucky and find an off it in their bin that would suit - they were happy to let me look through it before I came to the conclusion I would have to buy a complete plank.

Hello,
I can confirm the woodyard mentioned above by Duncan 89210 does have a range of hardwoods as my friend is refitting his wooden gulet type boat with supplies from this yard. I think he is using iroko. It is almost opposite the Shell petrol station near the airport as descried above. They also stock marine ply. There is a further alternative yard on the same road approx 1 mile further along on the opposite side, (blue railings ). I have purchased marine ply and small pieces of hardwood (Not teak)cut to size from this yard. Both have reasonable prices. The actual road is the min road towards Lefkimi and Benitses.

Thanks a lot, chaps. We shall have a look!

There's also a carpenter with a shop in Kontokali, on the opposite side of the road from the AB Vasilopoulos Supermarket, near Gouvia Marina. I've bought offcuts of marine ply from him, and I'd be fairly certain he has teak.

We found the second yard with the blue railings, but struggled to find the first place. Any chance you could provide a Google maps of the location? The only Shell garage we found was having a lot of work done to it, but no lumber yard to be found.

Hi Tinkerbell,
I will now attempt to insert the google maps reference as requested. If this does not work, then I will provide a detailed description, I will be doing this from memory so it may not be exact but I promise you it will be pretty close
https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
If this has worked then you will see the BP garage mentioned in the centre of the map. The woodyard you are looking for is the next left immediately after the garage (or it may be the second left). It may look more like an alley than a road, but it is there. (Sort of located behind, but not directly behind the garage) If in doubt, park nearby and walk or ask at the garage. Hope this helps Craig. Any further problems feel free to PM me and i will get the exact address from my mate, if he has the business card to hand, in Austria !!.

Sadly, the link didn't work for me. However, is it now a BP garage? We saw a few of those, around.

The reason I did not reference the BP garage in my previous post is that i did not actually know it was a BP garage until I checked google maps, I was working from memory and know exactly where the Shell garage is in relation to the woodyard as this is the garage I always get my clean good quality diesel for my boat. I have never used the "BP garage" and i did not want to give you false information.

I've now been able to have a look at the map, thanks. I'm pretty sure I know where it is now.

Thanks again.
