Well, I finally succumbed and replaced our worn out bathing platform teak with new.
This is the result - matches well with the old teak that you can see in the cockpit.

We had a specialist strip the old off and fit the new.
A really professional result.
We also took the opportunity to remove all the old stainless steel fitting that were redundant.
Even removed those key slot fittings that were fitted in the factory.

Really pleased with the result.
Don't you think?

Looks absolutely terrific, Hurricane. Like you've got a new boat straight from the factory!

As to that, could I ask a question? Did Princess do the aft corners of the platform with irregular borders on the teak strips or follow the curve of the platform?

I think the way it's been done in the pictures is the option that I would prefer, because it means the outermost longitudinal strip is not a small triangle which would probably be the first thing to lift, given the location.

It does look very nice indeed!
Otoh, judging a teak deck from a pic is pretty much like judging a book from its cover.
Actually, even looking at it in flesh after the job is finished, doesn't necessarily tell the whole story.
First and foremost, did they strip both the old teak planks and the plywood panels underneath, going back to bare grp/gelcoat? And did they lay single planks, or did they take templates to make pre-made panels for the replacement? Which teak thickness, anyway? And which caulking material?

Fwiw, the only "technical" comments that pop to my mind based on your pics are as follows:
1) It's good that they rounded the plank borders in the external tips of the platform.
Someone might argue that they look a bit weird, but that's surely better for the planks/caulking durability.
Out of curiosity, were also the original planks designed that way?
2) The only not so good thing that I notice is the thin teak wedge in the external corner under the step.
Is it the same on stbd side?

PS: ops, BJB beated me to point #1! :)

what was the orriginal and the new teak thickness ?

on our bathing platform, the teak is warn , and some of the caulking came out of the grooves, (new delivered from H+B in 2012)
there is approx 5mm teak on a ply underlayer, so I have enough material left to make the grooves deeper with a router,
put new caulking,
and sand the whole lot,
but considering the thickness, I guess there is just enought teak for one refit.

have you done a refit from the platform since you got the boat from new ?

The rounded corners are actually called "Snapes".
All Watson decks have these features.
In fact the new deck is virtually identical to the old one - even the little wedge piece that MapisM pointed out.

@BartW
The old teak was 6mm of wood (not laid on plywood)

I am very please with the match between the new deck and the old teak.
The guy who fitted it has many years in the industry and has a good portfolio of his work.

Looks great Mike you must be very pleased.
I do hope you've both had the opportunity to get those Captains chairs out on on it to have a few Sundowners !

I looked at getting this done locally in mallorca - but it was about 4 times the price of buying pre made Wattsons decking and getting it fitted.

Yep - I flew a guy from the UK out to do it.
I wanted a quality job.
He removed the old teak and fitted the new last week.
Actually, the guy I used is well known on these forums.

Looks awesome! Great job.

Can I ask who did it, as I need my swim platform replacing!

Just got home
Here are a couple of pics of the work that was done on JW's bathing platform.

And a close up - this pic was taken after a few days - the step needs a bit of a wash.

I will post the details of the guy who did the work later if anyone is interested.

That looks an excellent job done, and the match with old and new is unnoticeable from the photos, this is a job on our list todo , good to see that a match old and new can be achieved.
