Teak oil for Builders planks?

I'm wanting to knock out a fender board for our boat, but don't want to spend a fortune on a nice piece of wood & varnish, since it's only going to get banged about.

Can I use Teak oild to treat non-teak wood?

Fancy getting a long 6'x1'x1.5" board from Travis Perkin or the like, plane/sanding it back and teaking

I see no probs with that my only thought is the softer and more giving the wood the better the protection for your boat.
A piece of old heavy sail cloth over the side will help protect the hull finish if you intend to go though a lot of locks.
Big Ships Locking fenders are made 6ft to 7ft X 6"to10" X 4" to 8" and tapered down at the ends with an Adz by the ships Chippie from ordinary pine or fir or what he can get his hands on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Wouldn't bother treating it. If it's doing its job it's going to get scuffed and scraped anyway.

I'm putting our well used fender boards by the skip in Gosport Marina, sometime later today. Teak oil, hmmmm. Is that so they will glide up and down the walls without squeaking?

If you're yacht's 30'+, get a scaffold board - remove the steel end strips; if you're below 30' get a 5 or 6" wide decking (as in garden deck) board, this will be adequately big enough and is much easier to stow. In eaither case don't treat it with anything or you just end up with another job on the annual maintenance list. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
