Our plywood sole boards could do with a revamp.
We have considered just gluing lino on top and are looking for a real 'board' looking finish ( I have seen one with black 'caulked' strips which looked just the biz)
Cant locate that one but was wondering if anyone else had done this and could recommend some lino?
I am satisfied that it will be no more 'slippy' underfoot than the existing varnish!

Did this to Ella, our Hartley 30 which we keep in Wellington, NZ. It was certainly cost effective and works OK.

If it had been available I would have gone for Flotex type kitchen waterproof carpet. My MIL had it in her tiny kitchen with a planked floor effect which really was quite good.

Might be worth a look...............................

One of the vinyl sheeting companies does (did?) a teak and holly pattern, it would be a bit dearer than lino but might wear longer, worth a search on Google?; but under either vinyl or lino your existing floor is likely to turn quite manky though unless you bilges are very dry, less of a problem with Flotex.

I had artificial grass stuff from Trago Mills. It was blue, waterproof and rot proof. It also didn't look much like grass, more like a waterproof carpet. Dried quick and was lovely on bare feet. Very cheap iirc, about 7 quid

you could try Amtico comes in all sorts of wood effects and I think they also do caulking strips ,use a good quality adhesive and it will do a lifetime. Kieron

There's a formica-type laminate with teak/holly effect. Very hard-wearing, good grip underfoot, pleasant appearance, maintenance-free and easy enough to lay if you have a router.

I think I'm right in saying that linoleum died out not long after winklepickers, so probably not much point in googling by that name.

Real lino made with linseed oil and coloured fillers is alive and kicking, these days it is a specialist product laid by specialist tradesmen, so skilled that all the joints are invisible except for the change of colour, you will find it in lots of public buildings where its ease of working allows complex patterns to be cut in to it, we used to specify it for inlaying coats of arms, club crests or complex geometric patterns in lobbies of Council Offices, Sports Clubs etc. It can be bent with heat to form integral skirtings if necessary.
It is nothing like the 'lino' you granny had in her kitchen, much thicker, softer and more durable with that distinctive smell and very expensive, it is not something you will find for sale in the High Street but you probably walk over it every day.

Incidentally, all the floors both inside and out in the cockpit of our Nimbus 27 are teak and holly pattern laminate laid over birch ply, ( the brown colored Baltic stuff that lasts for ever) The stripes in the laminate outside in the cockpit have faded slightly but then it has been rained and walked on for twenty years, I suspect it will only do about another twenty or so.
Not very relevant to the OPs problem though.

Lino sounds like a death trap when wet.

There was a business exhibiting at the Southampton boat show 2 or 3 years ago selling 1.5mm teak & holly (effect?) laminate which seems just what the OP needs. The finish and wood colours were excellent unlike some of the sole ply sheets AWB manufacturers used in the erly 2000's... in fact I have kept a sample aboard, is says on the back Robbins Timber of Bristol.

Nooooo.... Nooooo Don't do it!

When I got Gladys the previous owner had laid vinyl flooring over the floor boards and everywhere. It started to come unglued near the engine and then crept through the rest of the boat. I was fortunate enough to have a superb shipwright available who made new holly and teak ply floorboards , and they were worth every penny

My Hunter Pilot had a piece of teak veneered ply on the companionway. This eventually delaminated, so I replaced it with this: http://www.marinedecking.co.uk/contact/ . That was a couple of years ago, and it's standing up well to wear. Not cheap, but eminently fit for purpose, and grippy underfoot. Looks good too.

On their site I see that they do a similar product for below decks. Possibly cheaper.
