Teak effect Carpet

Matter of opinion and taste.
Subjectively I think that all imitations are just that; never as good as 'the real thing'.
I don't really see them as imitations. Just alternative.

I have a BMW with wood trim, and let's face it, it doesn't look like wood at all - but I still think it looks smart enough. I don't even know if it is genuine wood to be honest but then I am a heathen

I can see this carpet being used OVER a teak decking to protect it (other places too the same as you use car mats to protect the carpet in a car)

I am certainly not one of these who would want to force people to remove their shoes, simply because I was so anal about my precious teak deck getting a scratch

Each to their own

Each to their own

That is, essentially, the gist of my original comment, which you quoted.

Incidentally, the cabin sole of my boat is solid teak and holly - not veneered ply as in most modern boats - that is now around 20mm thick. Yes, I do have a non-slip rug at the bottom of the companionway but no, we would not cover the genuine teak sole with a kitsch rug that 'looks' like laid teak... neither do we bother to take shoes off. The boat was 44 last March and is a 1973 Wauquiez Centurion 32.

This is a panel from the sole:

Well, I haven't come across anything similar on any AWBs that I've been on...
Swings and roundabouts all this

I'm only going to use my planned Sealine 310 as example.... and I'm sure you've read the thread I started about teak... but it's an improvement. An affordable one.

If you had to replace the teak and you didn't have the money, what would you do? Leave it rotten?

Nothing is better than the real thing, ignoring the maintenance obviously. This product clearly isn't intended to be the real thing but it does offer an alternative and finally a good solution for wheelhouse flooring. We have fitted over the top of real teak decking and it does act well as a protector.

All of customers that have installed the carpet absolutely love the product and have mentioned it really has transformed the boat.

Feel free to request a free sample and see for yourselves: https://www.teak-carpet.co.uk/sample.php

I've just seen this thread - late to the party so to speak, but if anyone is interested in this product I can give a personal take since we had this installed (internally) on Broad Ambition in her cabins.

We had previously had Holly & Teak laminate put down in the passageways but retained carpet in the cabins for that 'soft feel' when getting in and out of ones berth in the morning with bare feet. The chap from the company came and did the templates for us (a paid service) but they do sometimes do deals on this, and can also supply all the information required to do this yourself to keep costs down if you prefer.

We wanted the carpet whipped at the edges, but not fixed and just to lay flat for easy removal. A short while later the carpet was brought back and the quality is very good.

Not only is the carpet very tough wearing, it is very soft under foot. We have a lot of guests over the months on the boat, and after coming back from a river side pub with muddy boots we are pleased to say how easily the carpet cleans up - no harsh cleaners needed and just hang to dry which happens very quickly because of the unique backing the carpet has which means the water passes through (this also allows air to pass reducing chances of mildew building up further) all this time on the carpet looks as good as the day it was first put down - has stayed flat and has not lost its soft pile.

What was great was the way they lined up the cream lines of the carpet to exactly match the cream lines of the already installed laminated flooring. So these guys really have taken care and attention to the detail and I know of other boat owners who have had this fitted to their cockpits and are very happy with the results too.

Here is how it looks on Broad Ambition:

Good information. We have just had two sections for the pilothouse floor-its on two levels-and very good it looks too.

I'll be removing it if it ever requires washing.

In our case, it is a good alternative to refinishing the existing teak and holly flooring which, by virtue of the large windows all round, has become faded during its life.

It does feel good underfoot and looks well.

We shall see how it works out long term.

We would love to see some pictures of your new carpet! Please do share.

I was thinking about some interior insulation for the boards for the winter months, how does it come up rolled and stored for say 8 months on a boat in the Med?

Hello. The carpet is supplied to us from the manufactures on a roll so it will be fine left all neatly rolled up!
