Teak decks

Can anybody give me some tips on removing rust stains from teak decks? Ive only had the boat a few weeks and have managed to put a metal can down on the teak leaving a ring of rust.
There seem to be a huge number of products for cleaning teak decks, which one will deal with the rust best? or am I going to have to resort to sandpaper?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi Rick welcome to the board
Proberbly pretty much like the stains you get when you have visitors on board who put the coffee cups down and leaves a nice big circle on the teak. never found any of the regular cleaning products like Teak Restorer etc that would remove any of the stains so have always had to resort to light sanding.

sandpaper will gettitoff, tho 2-part teak cleaner from wessex chemical will do just as good. DO NOT use a brush on nice teak.

Oxalic Acid should do the trick as well ... brings the decks up well too.

actually, i think part 2 of that teak cleaner is in fact oxalic acid...

Try a biological soap powder in warm water, use a nylon pan cleaner across...across the grain only!!

Try White Spirit first, then if fails use the acid.

This will save you doing the whole deck!
