A representative of Teak Deck UK who supply and fit Dek-King decking visited my boat in November last year and gave me a written quote for areas of cockpit decking.
I accepted the quote and the work was to be carried out 'at the turn of the year' After several months had past they said that the decking mats were made and that fitting would be soon. I paid a deposit of £364 and after many contacts with the company I was given definite dates when the work was to be carried out followed by many excuses why it was not, including on different occasions, bad weather, lack of staff and a crashed van. Finally I contacted the MD who apologised and said he would expedite the matter and again a definite date was given. At the beginning of June, after many ignored emails the MD finally admitted that neither the templates nor the mats had been made and that the original quote was too cheap to make it viable for his company. Also that personnel had since left the firm and they were disorganised. He promised to return my deposit 'in a few days' Many emails later I still have not been refunded and have taken it up with my credit card company who are pursuing the matter. So beware of paying any money up front to this company.

Odd. I had Wilks of Tollesbury supply Dek-King mats for my yacht at the same time, last November. Everything was done in good order, within cost and to schedule. Follow-up was good, and I am very pleased with the result.

Is Teak Deck UK a different company? I thought Wilks were the manufacturer and sole supplier of Dek-King. It might be worth contacting them. Wilks (Rubber Plastics) Mfgs Co Ltd, Woodrolfe Road, Tollesbury, Essex CM9 8RY, +44 (0)1621 869609, info@wilks.co.uk.

There's also a Wilks / Wilkes supplier of plastic & rubber extrusions such as rubbing strakes ( who I have not used, never anything suitable ) who I seem to recall mentioning deck stuff; same firm ?

Wilks manufacture and supply Dek-King. Teak Deck UK is a different firm who are the North's distributers

Further to my warning about Teak Deck Uk, I contacted Wilks who make and distribute Tek Deck and the MD could not have been more helpful. However, after many phone calls and emails he tells me that Deck King are not in a financial position to repay my deposit and that I should pursue my claim through the small claims court. So do not pay any money to this company - you will lose it. They are still advertising on EBay.

Just to clear any confusion, as there seems to be a few companies with very similar names, from teak decking uk to teak deck uk...
Whats the full web address of firm your on about... To avoid....
Pm if you feel it neccessary please.
Regards
Rob

The company was called Teak Deck UK trading as Riptide Ribs based in Withersea Humberside. They were the northern distributers of Wilks Dek-King They have now stopped advertising on Ebay and as far as I understand they have gone bust owing a considerable amount of money - £20K in one instance and £6K in another case.
