Hasn't that point been reached with the cost of re-decking after 20-30 years? For me, my deck is well past its use-by-date but no way would I spend that sort of money - probably approaching the boat's market value. Some years ago I sat with a senior government politician in a S Asian country and bemoaned the logging and deforestation problem. His Answer? What would you have me say to the people for whom this is the only source of income?
I doubt it was the only source, but fishing, rice, etc ??
Paradoxically, the more expensive these natural resources are priced, the faster we find alternatives. We need to be priced out of destructive habits.

Instead, I have been intending for years to tear it all off, fill and sand down the ca. 1000 screw holes and paint with KiwiGrip. The widow of a friend sold a HR Monsun in my marina very easily with a painted deck.
Infinitely more practical, my teak deck is not to step on in bare feet - my preference when aboard - in the Italian sun and the lockers under the side decks are like pizza ovens helping to raise the cabin temperature to 40°C every day by late afternoon in the summer. And no more days spent on my knees deepening screw holes and replacing their teak plugs.
