chisel cross grain with the ground bevel edge in contact with or just above the deck.
if the chisel is used "flat" the pellets are prone to split-off below the surface.

I'll try another test plug. It's a bit cloudy here, which is a relief as it's been cracking the flags /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

start about 4>6 m/m above the deck then remove a little at a time going " with the grain "until flush
