Teak is mostly maintenance free, if you leave it alone and occasionally clean with Patiomagic. People choosing to do "maintenance" and mess about with it is on them! I also wouldn't buy a boat with a teak deck unless it was new (and then it'd be fake teak!) but more because of what previous owners would have done than any problem with teak
