Brown spots

If you do it in spring, the mildew spots disappear after a week or two, this winter might be different though.
 
I would recommend that you gently wash it off with your usual deck wash product about 3 days after you applied the Polycel. Then leave it alone for about a week. You should then see a difference but don't panic before then - it may well get worse before it gets better, it usually does.

Sorry, I haven't heard of this Polycell trick. You just spread wallpaper paste on tired teak decks? Any paste will do?
 
Teak, Cleaning and Protecting

The black ingrained colour/staining is almost certainly mildew that's gone deep (assuming it's not your diesel or engine oil!!!).

At this time of year it's very difficult to get rid of deep staining completely due to the inherent dampness (assuming UK?). The suggestion to leave for a few days and then wash off may well work, so give it a try. But again, at this time of year you may be fighting the general dampness.

If you can't move it then there is a thread created 22/11/09 by Tugw that explains a lot and gives alternative products to the one you've used. Not sure how to 'hyperlink to it' but you'll find it.

It explains that for just zapping algae and mildew then Brintons is brilliant but it's not a cleaner/colour restorer. But that product HAS to be applied in the dry and left!!

For cleaning/restoring the colour then look no further than the Holmenkol cleaner/brightener.

Thanks, I'll just wait a bit and see if the spots go. If not maybe they will next spring when I do the Polycell again--assuming it does ever dry out in the UK (St. Kats, London).

To Old Varnish; That's Polycell 3 in 1 Mold killer from B&Q. That, Brintons and Boracol are highly recommended in other threads to get the green out.

I used Polycell because it was the first I found. Super easy, brush on, wipe with a sponge and leave it. The green and surface mold is gone. From the replies the deeper (I suspect dead) mold will go eventually.

Don't think wallpaper paste will do the trick--unless your planning to lay a nice wood grain paper over the decks--maybe not that bad a thought considering the pain of keeping teak decks looking good.

I apply polycell 3in1 every 6 months and leave it at that. It stops new growth and normal boat use and rainfall etc gradually gets rid of the oringinal mould. Its kinder to the teak than scrubbing or cleaning it. Colin

Do you mix it as instructed on the packet, apply it, and leave it? Or do you let it stand and wash it off?
