I am considering replacing my Teak Cockpit seats at present and, given the cost of the real thing, have been looking at the various alternatives. At present Dek-King from Wilks looks favourite, but I am also considering Tekdek and Flexiteek. I also quite like Marinedeck 2000, which is a cork based product, but it is considerably more expensive and there does not appear to be a supplier in the UK, let alone an approved fitter. If anybody has experience with any of these products I would be grateful if you would share it with me, it is not my intention to do the fitting myself.

I have used both tek-Dek and Flexidek, The latter do a weathered look version which is much better for an older boat and VERY easy to fit, just get them to template and make the pieces you want and you can glue them down, they give the glue. Easy as.....

Many thanks A_a_S. However, I was really looking for experiences once they were installed such as grip and ease of cleaning etc.

You can get panels made to size with real teak from Howells in Poole or Moodydeck in Swanwick. Ideal for cockpit seats and soles. Far better than plastic.

+1. Fitted 3 years ago from Howells. Still as good as new! But getting the remains of the old one off was a nightmare.

That's the same problem if you use plastic. Worst part of the job if the original was well attached. Dreading having to do mine as not only well attached but recessed into curved molding. Fortunately looks a long way off.

How would bamboo flooring do for marine applications.
We have bamboo flooring through the house, and it seems to wear well. But I wonder how well it would go in sea water?

Dear Tranona

I suspect that real teak will now be prohibitively expensive but I will get a quote from your suggested suppliers and see.

Think you might get a pleasant surprise. For a relatively small and simple job like cockpit seats the difference between teak and the better types of plastic may not be large.
