Looking for someone to replace some of my caulking on teak deck/cockpit. Probably around 2 sq mtrs of decking in total.

Majority of the seams are decorative as the teak has been laid in "planks", but solid teak not teak faced ply.

Boat based in Burnham on crouch, currently out of the water, thereafter on a pontoon.

If anyone knows someone, Would be very grateful

Do it properly. Do it once. You really don't ever want to have to do it again.

Make sure the seams are properly cleaned out. Use the breaker tape at the bottom. Apply the proper solvent to the sides of the seams to ensure that the sikaflex will stick forever.

Good luck with finding the sucker to do it.

It could be worth doing it yourself. I have not done it myself but a friend refurbished his Nic 32 including laid teak in the cockpit. It looked splendid when he had finished. He used a compound that could be sanded, unlike the rubbery stuff on my deck.

You might ask on the Bavaria forum as the early 2000 versions had a sikaflex which degraded and became sticky so I’m sure many have removed the stuff with a fen tool type device cleaned off,put the tape in groove and regrouted. We are in Gosport but when we did it we asked around in the marina to find a well recommended person to regroup the cockpit sole but our very good chap is probably too far.

Hi D&T,
I am just coming to the end of some Teak work on my boat at Bradwell. I currently have 10 tubes of Sika / Sikaflex 290DC PRO Marine Deck Caulking Compound 600ml in Black left over. V long expiry dates (October 22). I'm only in Latchingdon. If you fancy doing the job yourself (easy to do) I'm keen to unload the caulking at v discounted rate. Please PM if interested. Regards Ian
P.S you do not need to use a breaker tape in the bottom of the groove with Sika 290 Pro - check out their tech spec data

That does look very good. Did you need to sand down the new seams afterwards?.
Yes we did, though it's not strictly necessary, depends on the finish that you desire. We intentionally went very light on our teak so only a gentle sanding. The caulking is very easily sanded, it doesn't seem right that it should sand easily but it certainly does.

I'd encourage anyone to have a go, it's not a difficult job and is well deserving of a smug glass of wine at the end of the day to admire one's efforts.

Thank you, I should have asked what caulking you used. I have been recommended the TDS one, as it does not require a primer.

I used the TDS product, and very easy it is to use too. There is some helpful guidance on their website on how best to use the product. The tape that lays in the bottom of the groove is important I believe, we certainly used it. I didn't buy the rather expensive caulking extraction/cleaning tool that they sell, it's ridiculous money, I made my own with a bit of steel, a piece of weed as a handle and the shaping of the steel with a grinderette.

second TDS. /I used it when re-decking my boat. Didn't bother masking the teak. Just sanded it off. Having extraction on the sander was a great help. Very satisfying.
With having so many metres of caulking to do I invested in an electric caulk gun which I sold on here after I'd done with it. It used 600ml sausages of TDS which saved a bit of money.
