Regretfully some water damage has occurred due to a leaking fitting resulting in some black stains on the forecabin bulkhead. I am thinking of using some iron on teak veneer to cover the damage.Bit expensive but cant think of anything else. Has anyone used this method and if so any tips on fitting. Alternatively any other suggestions as to other methods or materials that could be used. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Have you tried scrapping off any varnish, bleaching for 24 hours and then neutralising with 50:50 vinegar and water mix? roves the black staining surprisingly well. Once done sand lightly, stain with teak stain (I finish with a rag for a consistent finish) and then varnish. Results can be surprisingly effective and easy to do.

I would be very wary of the iron on veneer. I have done a fair bit of veneering and it is not easy to get all the air out with a big press or vacuum bagging.

I would try paint stripper, light sanding, then spirit based wood stain diluted down with white spirit until a 'decent' match and re-varnish. It worked for me.
