Just been to visit Sixpence's new establishment.

A very very lovely cup of tea (well several actually), and a gorgeous slice of coffee cake.

I have to say, they've done a beautiful job of the place... it really is very nice indeed, and I suspect they'll do very well.

If nothing else, its nice to see them both so chipper!

Great to see you and the family again, and thanks too for the compliments, very much appreciated :encouragement:
Your visit was timed to perfection as it was the only time we would have had a chance for a chat, it's been flat out all day since you left, loads of new faces too which is also good. Website, hmm, I'll admit we do have one but it's more of a holding page while we build things up nice and slowly, too busy with the current cooker and it won't cope so I need to replace that first. Not sure if the rules allow links to sites so I'll just mention it here until I know if I'm allowed a link in my signature

As said, still very much a holding or introductory page, most of our trade growth is through word of mouth rather than the internet or marketing, though people seem to be talking about us online as we found out yesterday, one site is spotted Pinchbeck https://www.facebook.com/pages/Spotted-Pinchbeck/279663035575851?fref=ts
But that's mainly locals and only reflects local chat
Mail order ?, hmm, maybe not, much as I'd like to Tim

Anyway, it's good to be back in the land of civilised working hours, and so much nearer the sea. Once I get Sixpence back up here I may have to have a play on the river again, not quite chipper enough to risk setting off seaward yet but the pills have at least got me off the walking stick at last. But if anyone happens to sail up the Glen or Welland (that would be brave) we're within walking distance

Oh, Neil, you've got to stop feeding Mat the growmore or he'll be taller than you too

Looking forward to getting together again, may the good times roll once more :encouragement:

p.s. Keep an eye on Spalding Voice, the free newspaper for the area, looks like they're going to run an article about us, same with the Lincolnshire Free Press though that could be the Spalding Guardian, not sure if it's one or the other or both

Does he do mail order to the distant parts of the UK ?
If my understanding of the word Tiffin is correct, Sixpence needs to employ some Dabbawallahs.
From Wikipedia:
A dabbawala; also spelled as dabbawalla or dabbawallah; is a person in India, most commonly in Mumbai, who is part of a delivery system that collects hot food in lunch boxes from the residences of workers in the late morning, delivers the lunches to the workplace utilizing various modes of transport, predominantly bicycles and the railway trains, and returns the empty boxes to the customer's residence that afternoon. They are also made use of by prominent meal suppliers in Mumbai where they ferry ready, cooked meals from central kitchens to the customers and back.

You don't need a website.... Just use Facebook well.. And build up your twitter followers..

Youtube as well would be worth populating...

If you have your heart set on a website use a wordpress theme...

...except... You will miss all those people who don't subscribe to the misnamed "social media"...

But how many cake eating oldies are gonna search for "tea shop Spaulding"??

I suspect that location will attract the new trade initially... And online will be used for the relationship marketing... And for this... Facebook and Twitter will be better than a web page... It encourages word of mouth as well as being a much more responsive and interactive experience.

I dunno, I go out to do a days work and you're all playing in here, tch tch :p
Just wanted to clarify something though, it ain't just tea and cakes here, we do a whole lot more than that and more to come in the new year once a baby decides to put in an appearance instead of just being a bump :encouragement:
Never could quite get my head around twitter but yes, we're tweeting away on there as well as facebook. It's work related so I allow myself internet time at work for that
The internet side is gaining some new faces too, but listening to some of the gossip I hear people saying they're looking forward to going to our place as they've heard lots of good things, it's like a treat to lots of people round here it seems. Others come in more regularly and the following is growing all the time. So far mainly by word of mouth, but we don't want to be too busy too soon just yet. We'll see what happens after the newspapers go to print, then maybe I'll have to work on growing things through the internet, something I'm not too sure about but I'll manage somehow :ambivalence:

I'm very sorry that your establishment is rather outside my normal range of operations. A tea shop is such a traditional and civilised part of British life, pace Dad's Army & all that. In my youth there are two types, those that sold lovely home-made cakes, and those that only provided bought-in cakes, such as the notorious and revolting Kunzle cakes. I'm sure it is quality that will keep people coming, so good luck.
