Guilty. My plan is to change the poisonous-sounding CFC to something more suitable, like "Barcelona North End" which should attract even more foreign footie players, and then just before the end of the season (if appropriate) change the name again so that "Leeds United" wins something, heehee.
How about "I put a £40 bet on at 11-1 that <Leeds United> would get relegated and and manged to <win> £440, but unfortunately my swmbo found the betting slip whilst i was away, cashed it in and has spent the lot on <something> other than boat fuel/frippery"
You do realise that, as someone who was lucky enough (an old enough!) to see with their own eyes Leeds beat Man U 5-1, Southhampton 7-0, and Forrest 6-1 in the same season, this is all getting very depressing!
Twas indeed - I think they also did West Brom something like 7-1 in the same season didn't they. They only lost two matches all season - one was definitely Man. City but can't remember the other one
erm, stoke city halted the long run of 34 games without defeat, praps. The "other one" that lufc lost in the same season as winning by large amounts against forest and mufc were a bit numerous, i think.
Anyway, it's all that scottish git's fault. Not sure exactly which scottish git cos of course they were a lot of them scottish and definitely all gits, apart from Paul Madeley who started a DIY shop selling cheap pickaxe handles and hammers.
I quote from a 1970 Leeds championship winning poster..
"Barely 8 years ago Leeds were on the brink of bankrupcy, Their overdraft was £128,000, debts topped £200,000, and the team had one foot in the third division".
My how times change (it's now one foot in the second div!!)
The poster also goes on to say.."They lost only two........." but doesn't tell who.
Brilliant! I bet Leeds would love a £128,000 overdraft right now! instead of what? £80MILLION!
They could do with a few players from 1970's too. Damn shame it all went downhill so fast recently. Hopefully it will recover. Me support 'em? No, just dont like to see anything that has been thriving, go down the tubes. The failure or success of these teams have a remarkable effect amongst those that live and work in the areas.
It was Man City (3-1) and Burnley!. Burnley beat Leeds 5-1 at Turf Moor on 19th October 1968 - Leeds got revenge on 21 December beating them 6-1 with Eddie Grey humiliating their defence for a couple of the goals including one he scored himself by beating them all once and then waiting for them to regroup and beating them all again before scoring - more like a matador than a footballer.
i was looking at the 1970ish results, and it's all there: do you realise that since the uk joined the EEC, Huddersfield Town have dropped from the top divison to the bottom! Huh!
I remember it all too well, Ian Greaves was manager, star players were Frank Worthington, Trevor Cherry and Dick Kryswicki. Think they survived a couple of seasons before getting on the slippery pole.
On their way back now..........
Sad to admit it but actually I followed Halifax Town as a kid. There I've admitted it...Thats the first step to recovery.
