Those of you with long memories may remember Matt and his adventures with his Leopard, sticking copper flake to the hull, extreme ironing, his legendary boat show parties etc etc. He wrote some of the funniest and many of the most informative posts on the mobo forum, until he went over to the dark side with his various sailing boats.

Unfortunately he has now deleted himself after a bit of a spat on the liveabord forum. I do hope it's only temporary. I know a few of the folks here are still in touch with him, maybe they can persuade him to return, the forums need characters like him!:encouragement:

Wasn't he the guy who 'rowed' past a street web cam in New York in a dinghy? (Or have I been at the cheese too much over Christmas).

Also seem to remember an amusing (but short lived) column in MBY?

Agreed, had a great sense of humour (if I am recalling correctly).

There's nothing wrong with your memory! All correct.

Me too. Never met but once was tied up on same pontoon but opposite side in St Peter Port outer harbour. Exchanged a few cordial PMs too re bike events in Daytona. I would trade Matt for one Brent Swain ( steel boat thread) in a heartbeat. :encouragement:

Unfortunately that’s the way this forum and many others have gone now, if you ain’t part of the clique then your post isn’t welcome, shame it’s been ruined by the few that think it’s their own forum who don’t like others contributing, we seem to have lost a lot of the regular and honest members in last year or so which Is a great loss to those with the highly technical questions that once got answered by an expert with the right answer and not someone who thinks they know everything and know nothing

One of the reasons I've been posting here for the last fifteen or so years has been down to tcm. I started as a rag and stick merchant but Matt's wonderful writing showed me a community that was funnier, took itself less seriously and for that I'm very grateful. Plus, having met the man, he's a good sort. Hope he comes back.

You have only been here 14 months, how can you come to that conclusion? I don't believe there is a "clique" here like other forums, quite a lot of the regular posters here actually know each other and they post the most as it's more of a social community rather than a general forum. There are highly technical people here that can do tantric repairs but the general consensus is people looking for ideas to combat a problem they have and welcome all input.

I see what you are saying on the other forums but not the Mobo forum. :encouragement:

Well said MrB, I found this Forum in 2004 and I had So Much Help from it. Then I went on over the Years to find Forum Friends in real Life and on the Internet. People I still maintain contact with who I have never met for real. The Numerous ones I have met for real will be lifelong friends as per the ones I have not met for 'real' I have taken advice and given advice on Here. I have taken Abuse and Given Abuse on here!! I will do so rather (give abuse I mean) as long as I can. I am better than that as to giving technical advice (boring shit that is) but Hey Ho somebody has to do it. There is No 'Clique' We just Voice what we have to say. Forums are an Enigma as you rightly say in one way. I have Posted more B&llocks on here than Most over the Years but it's Fun B&ollocks Mostly in a way that the thick Mobo people on here will understand (They are all Rich twats by the way) because they earn too much and spend it on Diesel to go nowhere particularly unless there is a Bar or perfect mooring at the end of the Trip. Anyway, Must Go. There is a Tosser on one of my Classic Motorbike Forums giving it Large about how good is was in the 50's . Bloody Tosser!

LJS - how odd you mention TCM as my SWMBO only remarked yesterday asking if I ever hear from him.

Fun days indeed - i remember the big MB&Y birthday party in Cowes (2004?) and joining him on the Leopard for the treasure hunt with the then editor ; complete cockup.

tcm I can’t help you with but if the forum needs a mission statement I nominate Kawasaki’s above. It sums it all up for me:encouragement:
