Taylor 030 Maintenance

Go for TLC rather than brute force. If you are having trouble getting the control knob and spindle off, try a bit of wd40 tofree it up.if that doesn't workit might be that the control knob spindles are out of alignment with the holes in the cooker front, in which case you will hav e to free off the locking nut at the base of the burner, and then turn it using the burner spanner on the main nut only.
Please feel free to pm me about this, as I have recently done an overhaul on my Taylor's 030 burners
Do be very careful with the burner as new ones are stupid money, eg £140ish, although there are alternatives.
Hope this helps, but I am a believer in Taylor's, ESP following a late night scare on a remote mooring with a 'certified' gas system that failed

"Maintenance"... there's your first mistake. I find that my Taylors will run perfectly for four seasons if I leave it alone, but every time I strip it down and give it a good clean up it takes months to get it working perfectly again.

My recollection is that, if you take the jet out you can unscrew the needle valve til it spits out the cleaning needle and then all the way with the knob still attached and then get to work on separating the two in the bench rather than in the cooker.

But mine is 8000 miles away at present.

The shaft is hollow, so don't overdo the brute force and ignorance - WD40 or Plus Gas and wriggle and it will (eventually) come - the trouble is that the joint is close enough to the burner to get very hot and it carbons up a bit.

Case need, the enamelled top of the stove comes off quite easily should you need more room to "get at it".

Thanks to everyone who have taken the trouble to contribute to my call for help.

I'll let you know tomorrow once I have been on board (rowing out to the middle of Portland Harbour!) and tried all suggestions.

Thanks, Doug
