Hello.
Can you still buy cheap Diesel in Malta or do you have to go to Tunisia or Gibraltar.
I need around 1500litres and currently in Croatia and would like to find somewhere nearby, hence Malta?
Rather not go to North African coast, if possible and would like to get some before Gibraltar.

If you know which marina, fishing port or delivery truck it would be useful to post for others.
Quantity can make a difference as in some countries the minimum before tax rebate is 1,000 litres.

I have a good old fashioned Volvo which is not as affected as the newer models regarding sulphur, diesel bug, etc..
Had a Perkins 4236 before and it worked on everything I ever bought no matter where. There is a lot to be said for the old faithfuls, maybe not as efficient but dependable.

We filled up in Melilla this summer and it was v cheap- can't remember how much but mch less than anywhere else we've seen (ever!) though we didn't fill up in Gibraltar. If I find my note about how much I'll post it.

Diesel in Venezuela last September was 6.25 UK PENCE per gallon. It has gone up though but didn't bother to check the price when we bought in November this year, it was still loose change. I won't say what the beer costs it would be too upsetting.

Well yes that's cheaper but we've never been to Venezuela. It was 76.4 cents per litre for the diesel and €6.5 per night for a 12m boat.

I gather it was even cheaper in Algeria because we talked to an MFV in Gibraltar who'd travelled there. You can't leave the ports without special permission which is quite hard to get, but the fuel was extremely cheap!

I was last there in September 2006. It was still possible to get duty free diesel then. If I recall it was about LM 25 cents a litre, which worked out around 40 pence. There was a fuel barge opposite Msida Creek marina or you could call up a fuel truck. You need a customs clearance to get duty free and it helps to tell them first. It was cheaper there than Gib.

[/ QUOTE ] Well, at them moment crude (bulk) is around $0.60 per litre so £0.0625 per gallon of refined diesel, retail, doesn't sound quite right /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I suppose that depends which September
