this seems to be best option for me! There is much scope for a religion like this and I will give it a go. We need some sport of creed of course and some leaders.

Bona Vacantia will be announced coincident with the goings on in Rome. Candidates are invited and when the new "Papa naviculari" is announced a plume of white smoke will be visible from the exhaust of my eberspacher!

The gospel according to Tom will be taught at services during which sea shanties will be sung by the congregations. There will be different denominations with slightly different beliefs/traditions/rituals (fin keels, long keels, different anchors and rigs) but the basics should follow the 10 commandments;

1 thou shalt not take The Lord Tom in vain
2 thou shalt not covet thy neighbours boat
3 thou shalt not use an engine when the wind blows
4 remember the colregs and keep them holy
5 thou shalt not reef before necessary
6 thou shalt not steal thy neighbours mooring
7 thou shalt not bear false witness against the RNLI
8 remember the equinoxes and keep them holy
9 honour the spring tides
10 thou shalt not worship false flags

Seems like a runner to me. Can't wait to get things started. My tax returns take on a new interest. Thanks for the assistance.

We will decide our leader without smoke nor fire, it will be the last person preaching as the service goes on. We will take all types of keel as long as above them there is a single malt.

All boats will be welcome, although those that have no sails must pass at considerable distance and low speed.

Vegetarians Will be accepted but must bring there own special haggis (these are only accepted as they are surprisingly good for what they are).

Our religious day will be 25th of January when copious amounts of Hagi and Malt must pass ones lips...

I believe that asking such question to an audience that includes employees on PAYE is distasteful.

Interestingly, that is almost exactly the same as our accountant said!

We were not proposing anything carrying passengers - that's far too much trouble! We are an IT company and I was giving consideration to selling a range of PCs targetted at the marine environment - would have needed the boat as a test bed and demonstrator.

The accountant suggested that, if we did try it, we should reserve a cabin for the tax inspector 'cos he would pretty much move in!
