Tattoos and piercings are unnecessary body damage.
Beards just get in the way..
Bo, only after several hours working in the garden, but that would followed by a long soak in the bath with an accompanying large whisky.

Scars. Real sailors have scars.
I have a few of those, none to do with sailing.
I have had a moustache since i was 17, grown to cover a split lip as the result of a bike accident, Grew a beard on/off while in the army, shaved off when I worked in the real world when told it looked disreputable. Grew again when I became my own boss but kept short.

You and me both, from 14 when I hit a kerb on a small island, which split a road two ways at the bottom of a steep hill. Base over apex and face first into the gravel. Got rid of the slug about 20 years later.

My tattoo is not of an anchor, naked ladies or roses. Just my blood group.

I'm assuming not SS, so vintage American origin?

In the early 1950s, schoolchildren in northwest Indiana and parts of Utah (Cache/Rich counties) were given blood-type tattoos on their chests as a Cold War civil defense measure.
Intended to facilitate rapid, "walking blood bank" transfusions during a potential nuclear attack, the short-lived program was abandoned within a year because doctors did not trust tattoos for medical information.

I am not sailor but yesterday as the wife passed me in the companion way…she said I stink. So I ticked B.O.

For an odour update…just returned from the port’s onshore facilities and I now smell lovely and am in a very nice restaurant
