Hi all

Has anyone here owned or had experience with a S&S designed Tartan 37/Condor 37 ? All opinions and comments on the construction, design and performance would be appreciated !

Thanks in advance
Roger

Tartan 37 is a well respected boat in the States, built between mid 70's and early 80's they sell for about $50K-$60K. They seem to have been owned by the more knowledgeable boat owners and are usually in good repair. I seriously considered buying one once but I was detered by the fact that most were shoal draft swing keel, there were a few fin keels but were difficult to find. I was also afraid of the potential problems with importing one to Europe under the new EU regulations.

I sailed a Condor 37 from Plymouth to Falmouth about 24 years ago. We were considering her as a possible Sail Training Craft (STC) for the Royal Navy. As you would expect from an S&S design she was well balanced and seemed to sail well in the not very demanding conditions of that single trip. We didn't decide to buy partly because of the sail drive configuaration (although that could have been changed at extra expense) but mainly because we had doubts about the competence of the then management of the Penryn yard.

Thanks for the comments. The general opinion here and elsewhere seems to be that they sail well enough, but there are very few around. I wonder how many were built ?

I have done a lot of research into the Condor 37 and have found the moulds which could be available to lay up some hulls if anyone is intersted.
The condor 37 mould was taken from a Tartan 37 hull but only ever had a fixed keel. Penryn yachts started to manufacture the boat either fully complete or in various stages of completion.
The boat I sailed on during the eighties ( Condor of Aln ) was purchased as a hull and deck and fitted out by the owner with a better layout down below and a larger rig which was only ever on the racing version of the Tartan 37.
The boat was fantastic both in light airs and in heavy weather and turned heads where ever she went.
With todays modern designers the interior of the boat would be every bit as good as currunt models.
I have got the orginal drawings for the rig and sail plan along with the fabrication details for the keel support metalwork.I have located the keel manufactures and a shipwright who is interested in fitting the hulls out.
Should anyone be interested in having a hull and deck produced, require more information or have any additional information I would be grateful if you could send me an email
