Targa 47

Hi
We have had ours for a couple of years, the boat has been brilliant. Both cockpit and saloon have plenty of space, fast, large garage where you don't have to deflate a williams to get in, we have jet ski in ours, the only thing I have to say, which was mentioned by jfm some time ago is that they can be noisy.

I really like them. Exterior space is a good platform for having fun. Garage takes williams 285. Engine room access is excellent. Interior very nice. As mentioned above I think the engines are noisy. Also the helmsman's view over bow isn't great compared to say the targa 50 that has a great view. T47 may be par for thr sports cruiser course though.

Engine room access is excellent.

This is great indeed. One of the best in its class. You can look also at Princess V46/48 of the same vintage or Sunseeker 47 Portofino.

As hull lines go I would go for the Princess as I think they stood the test of time better, while the Fairline IMO is bit better build IMO then both the above.

V45 is a great looking boat but a handful on drives when berthing in a wind, the joystick job on the later ones is a gimmick that's doesn't work. Shafts for me every time. T47 not a def but on the list. I can't get excited with Sunseekers.
V 48 is a contender not the new one I don't charge enough to be in the half a bar bracket and I don't like IPS.
Targa 47 is a noisey boat but that's down to the roof being hard grp and the fact it doesn't have a rear engine room bulkhead which make for easy servicing as the oil and fuel filters on the D9 are at the back. The V48 is a pain to service if some monkey has over tightened the oil filters. The V is more a Rolls, the Targa is a sport Bentley in my book. Both great boats that eat up the miles and are reasonably economic if ever there was such a thing as economic motor boating.

Easy to do a long trial of T47 by renting the Boats.co.uk T47in cala d'or. Could have a great holiday there

As regards noise, what I mean is that it feels noisy to me coming from a flybridge. I haven't driven many sports cruisers so it may be that t47 is just par for the course ie they are all a bit noisy.

Garage takes williams 285.
You can actually get a Williams 325 in the garage if you're happy to let out a bit of air in the tubes. With a auto inflator, for us its not a problem and the extra size of the 325 is a bonus and a much better boat for mono skiing behind.

Other than the noise and view from the helm position, the 47 is pretty faultless and we love ours. Great use of space in the main areas you spend your time in and the build quality, storage and detail is first class, IMHO designed and built just when Fairline hit that sweet spot.

Had RK marine fit sound deadening material in the engine bay and on the engine hatch on mine and rewened the engine bay seals. Didn't cost a lot but dropped the noise by around 50%, no loud turbo whistle and even at WOT you can now talk without shouting. Cant recommend doing it enough !

Weve had ours a year now. Things that are useful as extras as most things were on the T47 and are worth looking out for ; Black waste holding tank. The step behind in the cockpit wall to help you step over the side. The heating and demist system for the cockpit , which is great on colder evenings with the cover on to sit outside, Williams / Jetski winch / loading wheels, The griddle, Ice maker (ours didn't have one) , Electric toilets , saloon / bedroom / toilet heating, the taller navigation mast (allowing for large open radar), the vynl sunpad (which looks much nicer) . And the bigger engines - D9-575's are the way to go all day long!.

If you get one - Have somebody add sound deadening to the engine room - knocks 50% off the noise.

The C120 Navigation that comes on it (and just about every one Ive seen for sale) is rubbish and a must upgrade.

Good sea boat, covers easy to put on (10 mins tops). Fridge / freezer is massive.

Ive just posted the performance to fuel sea trial on mine. View attachment ESCAPISM.pdf

If your serious about buying one, I'm pretty sure I've got the best one in Europe as we've spent £80k on it this year in upgrades, refit and maintenance. PM me for details. as were upgrading to a Targa 50 as we need three bedrooms.
