Cross valves should be closed. Only needed if you want to divert fuel from one tank to another. Middle red and green.

Ok that good.. that explains my fuel gauge then .. wondering why one was using more.. taken her for 1st good run over to cowes.. pretty quiet over here at mo :encouragement:

Don't know if you have generator but the pickup is higher up the tank. Presumably to avoid you running the tank dry with the genny. So if it start sucking air with diesel in the tank thats the reason.
Had to find that out myself the hard way :) . Enjoy. great boat!

Ok cheers

When do I get to have a look around????

The fuel manifold valves on my Targa 64 just allow fuel to be taken from and returned to either tank, uneven fuel levels will not balance through this manifold as the feeds and return pipes go through the top of the fuel tanks. There's probably a further larger link pipe at low level with inline valves on that links the tanks together if required.

I managed to dump about 50ltrs of diesel into the bilge of my boat trying to draw fuel from one tank and return to the other in an effort to even out fuel levels, before finding the well hidden link :ambivalence:

Yeah we should meet up soon :encouragement:

Hmm yeah that’s interesting.. yeah looking at mine now and is that just for fuel return.. think the main feed is from top by looks of it.. green valve..then comes back around for fuel return to them 3 valves.. yeah trying to balance mine now.. will pop over to cowes fuel berth in morning..

50 l diesel in your bilge don’t sound good .. bet that was a bad day:disgust:

I would suggest you look in the handbook.

They give all sorts of valve positions there but be careful. If you shit off a return and give it nowhere to go then it has disasterous results.

I used return divert once on out t40 to balance tanks as we could only fill one side.

this type of valve is Open when the handle is in-line with the valve body.
the crossover/link valve you have arrowed would normally be closed i.e. red lever vertical (pointing down), so that each engine returns excess fuel back to its respective tank.
Also the black (dark colour) crossover valve for fuel supply (higher up on picture) would normally be closed (handle vertical pointing down) so again each engine draws from its own tank.

double check both fuel tank outlet valves are open.
(fuel shut off "T" handles near the helm pushed all the way in - check the actual valve on the tank opens and closes properly as well)

The older style fuel tank senders on boats are often not set up properly and can stick giving misleading results. So they do not always read the same port to starboard for an equivalent amount of fuel. Just keep an eye on the levels once you have the fuel valves set correctly to get a better feel for fuel usage and how your gauges behave. Don't panic if one side seems to use more than the other, but do check it out. The new style senders with a float that goes up and down a straight tube are much better/reliable in indicating fuel level.

Yeah cheers for your help ppl , yeah all done now, the green top one and centre lower red one should of been closed like few of you say.. will refill the fuel in morning and try balance the tanks , Cheers!

yeah small dry filter to breather to waste tank

Sorry, totally off topic to your original post and sorry for Fred Drift but when I read your answer I got the giggles, your phrase "breather to waste tank" reminded me of an old thread on here. If you want a good laugh, Google YBW and HLB and exploding bog.
