T37 every time. First of the new modern Targas and still looks fresh today. T38/39 very old looking in comparison, with eaqually only internals and cockpit.
T37 has to be (one of?) the best Targas ever made, especially when you consider size and cost.
I'd have to agree with Jez - we had a T37 for two years and it was a fantastic boat. Only significant issue with the design is that access to the engines is quite tight, but that's it really, all round a fabulous boat. Just make sure you get one with good service history.
We spent months looking at both, and testing in the end chose the older T39 over the T37 there is a big differance in the accomadtion in favor of the T39,
Performance W.O.T goes to T37 as these normally have the KAD43 260hp or KAD 44 285hp compaired to the T39 which at the time was only available with the KAD 42 230HP.
T39 will cruise all day 25-28K WOT 32K+/-
On the looks front they are still head turners.

all the comments are spot on
about performance, looks and accommadation
but give a good head sea to the T38/39 vs 37 and she will be 3 knots more and much less slamming
such a better seaboat the T38/39 I think it is one of the best Fairline Olenski hulls around
The Targa 37 got me all excited back in 1997 at the boat show, and from that day on I knew one day.........'She Would Be Mine'!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
The design beauty of the 37 and 48 with their lovely side profile looks as good today as the really modern stuff. I have NEVER felt insignificant whilst moored up anywhere. The skipper who did my D.S corse had delivered Fairlines for years, and taken them places most of us wouldnt want to go! In his opinion the Targa 37 was the best sea keeping hull they had ever built apart from a 48 on shafts!
My wife and I looked at a few before we took the plunge, including the more 'roomy' 39. Sadly to me the 39 looked outdated, and according to many in the know was a little beamy and slammed around in the rough stuff. The external appearence was what sold the 37 to me, and if you look at one moored up anywhere they still turn heads. Its like most things in life, its down to personal taste. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
All I can say is that a 37 on KAD 44's is quick, turns on a sixpence, looks the biz, and seemingly holds it value well.
If you want to come and have a look at a rough, nearly stripped anti-foul T37 that looks a bit sorry for itself at the moment, contact me and you can have a look around one thats NOT for sale, without the pressures of vendors, or brokers get PM me and I'll show you round ours.
She will be looking cool again soon! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Personally I'd go for the 38/39 mainly due to them being much bigger. I also prefer the 'classic' look of the 38/39's. My only reservation on the 38's would be KAD42's. Would be perfect if you can find one that has been re engined with 43/44's
I don't like the palstic windscreen mouldings of the 37. Both nice looking boats but the 38 for me.

They way houston was going though a heavy sea yesterday I reckon the T40 hull aint bad either

the 40 hull is the one from the 38/39 with much deeper sections forward but also aft, I think 1.10 metre aft including props
the T37 is very responsive and light weight but I stick to my guns it is not a very impressive bad weather boat, I have driven a T with 42s a few times and it goes as fast as you can with not so big engines but from F4 + head seas (3ft + waves) will not be the best boat to be in
