A couple of weeks ago I managed a decent little trip to give me an idea of what my fuel consumption might be, was a little worried to see various archived posts suggesting 1-1.5mpg was what I should expect.

Sea conditions were calm and the sun was out with little wind so I guess as good as we can hope for.

It was a 106 mile trip, 31 miles were at 5-6knts coming in and out marinas and through the top end of the Kyles, 75 miles were at cruising speed of 24knts.

I left with a full tank and fuelled back up on my return having used 220.5litres, approx. 48.5 gallons.

So if my maths are correct we completed the trip returning a respectable 2.18mpg that I'm very happy with?

I'm guessing the calm conditions will have certainly helped..

Sounds about right to me, bearing in mind 30% of your Mileage was spent at low speed where I would expect to see around 3.5mpg

If we assume that figure then your crusing MPG works out to be around 1.9mpg. its what I would expect for a boat of that size, on outdrives

Good to know, I probably just looked at the overall distance and never thought about the breakdown between slow and cruising speed so I guess on a longer haul with more cruising speed, fuel consumption will be less than my previous outing.

No, it's the other way around, if your ratio of planing to displacement increases, so will your fuel consumption. Your *mpg* will reduce, but your fuel consumption will rise.

Jimmy thanks for pointing out the typo that made me look stupid lol, I did mean fuel economy will be less not consumption .

Slow-good mpg, fast - not so good mpg
