TARGA (37)38 opinions please

They are WOT. 25 cruise at 3300, and more economic 22 at 3100.
36 knots Max not possible in the Med.
I was looking one in Italy a couple years ago with 44s, 500 hour boat and that is what she did. 31.5 knots. 3/4 diesels, full water and full crew tender with outboard, and some peronsal items.

Thanks again PYB.
Then I should skip them from my list.
Thats too low speed at least to me, I'm looking to run at 25 knots at economic cruise.
Paying almost same price to a same boat should have better engines.
Best regards.

The British Fline estimates in the Med have three problems.

1. Volvo HP bench mark testing is done in zero degrees. Put Med 20+ deg Celcuis temp and you easily loose over 10 per cent of that 260hp. Volvo have lost a couple of law suits of this I heard in the past. The newer Volvo engines should have improved on this and give better performance in higher tempatures
2. Colder sea, and less salt in the UK. This also gives you an extra 5 to 8% or a couple knots in speed.
3. As usual but not only to Fairline (but nearly all production builders) a new boat is always new and is empty can easilty add a couple extra knots of perfmorance.

I also was once told that 2003 after build 40 Targa are better constructed, stronger and a bit heavier. But I honestly don't know if there is any truth to these rumours.

PYB,
Great thanks for the invaluable info.

1 & 2. wow, so we are here in Marmara and Egean seas start to the match 1-0 beaten. I can feel the speed increase and easily acceleration in winter when seawater is 7-8 C degrees. Also after heavily rained the salinity ratio decreases a bit but then less buoyancy and uncomfortable ride (to me).

3. As you said newer the better. Newer technology, newer engines, electronics and more standarts.

If I'm not mistaken D series engines are produced in 2005-2006 and so the same of boat's model.

One other thing I'm curious about how much is the head sea cruising comfort differs in this size boat stern drive versus v-drive/shafts.

Best regards.
