tapered battens question

I took my battens out in the autumn and am now putting them back. They are physically thinner (more bendy) one end than the other and I didnt notice that when I took them out. So should the thinner end go into the batten pocket first or should the thicker end go in first? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Easy way to think it through. If you put them in the other way round there would be a fold or crease where the batten ends, it eeds to be smooth without a step..
