I imagine that there are quite a few Tax Disc Holders like this still available, now at knock-down prices.

It occurred to me that this would be a good starting point for a Tank Inspection Hatch.

Much too small. You could not even get your hand through. IMHO inspection hatch should be large enough to get your head in to have a good look round to see what need to be done inside.

We have to display our yacht port licence which is the same size as a car licence disk so would work for that.

Usually made of nasty monkey-metal which I wouldn't want to rely on to prevent diesel leaking out.

Round hatches aren't ideal for a thin stainless tank, because you need to fit a stiffening ring on the inside and a round one won't fit through the hole. Obviously there are ways round it (eg hinging the ring in the middle) but why not just fit a square one instead? The principle of "round hatch can't fall through its own hole" is only valuable when you're on the top of a 50-foot-deep ship's bunker, not a yacht tank you can reach into.

I take a Size 10 glove, and can nearly get my hand through. Job for the wife then, bonus! :)

They are made of stainless steel, and are even pre-drilled :)

Just a thought.

Yes but can you get your hand through while holding a spanner or other tool to do anything useful in the tank.

I have a 4" screw hatch in the main access hatch of my water tanks and can get my hand, wrist, forearm and elbow in but not my upper arm and if iI need to tool I have to lower it in first with a string attached.

I will have to fit a bigger screw hatch at some point later for the next job which is fitting a water level float like an extended sight glass above top of the tank.

IMHO the bigger the access hatch the better. Some jobs you even need 2 hands inside the tank.

Sadly, I wouldn't!

I'm constantly amazed at what people will pay for things on eBay. A few years ago, I had a profitable little spell of selling mobile phone cases on eBay. I found I could buy them on American eBay for about £3 each (inc shipping to UK), but I could sell them easily on UK eBay for up to £30 each. Madness!
