I am familair with exhaust brakes on trukcs, but did not know they had them fitted to marine engines.
Can anyone tell me whet they would actually be used for in the marine application?
EngineTAMD31A circa 1987 fitted in a Birchwood.

Very helpful guy at Volspec told me they are no longer fitted/have been done away with, and can be removed with no issues, I thanked him and hung up, then thought hang on I never asked the man what my brain was thinking!

In the early days of the 31 and 41 A series they smoked like he’ll from cold start so Volvo produced the electronic flap in the elbow that partially blocked the exhaust gas exit , by doing this it warmed the engine up quicker .
