Hello,
A question for Y'all
Why did Volvo produce the 63L (318hp) when using the exact same Engine block they produce the 63P (370hp), surely it costs them the same to make each engine, but they must sell the 63L cheaper?
Also, does anyone know of any probs. on the 63L? I'am looking at a boat that has them.
Evening Y'all

Surely its the other way round, you pay too much for the 63P, its all profit for Volvo who have probably done nothing more than raise the boost pressure and fitted larger injectors. Because its a pleasure rating of 370hp your not expected to use it a lot, unlike bullet proof 318hp version for commercial use. This gives Volvo an ideal get out come warrantry claim time, to say you have overdriven the engines, hence what do expect! Maybe i'm being a bit unfair, but diesels are supposed to be understressed and last forever, yes? so I would go for the lower power version myself.

Not sure why they do it, except to make a wide range of engines from the lowest number of base engines? Outboard manufacturers do it lots. Car manufs do it a bit, ford orion + ford escort

But in the case of the 63L/P, it is built like a brick facility anyway. Even the "racier" 63p is a low stressed low revver, never wears out.

Paul js eng will know more, but I wd not hesistate to get the 63p if you can, though the 63L must be fine too

One catch. Fairline offered the 63L as a downgrade option in boats like the phantom. About £10k off the price I think. Hardly anyone bort them, so I wd think massive problems with resale. In the last 2 years of MBY ads, I can only recall one 63L engined Pantom 40/42/38 being for sale. So beware, it might be hard to sell on
