It's a sad refection on today's obsession with celebrity.
and.... she is not that gorgeous. I wonder if she would have got a look in if her name had been Smith and not Ecclestone.
I also wonder what her fee was.
It's a sad refection on today's obsession with celebrity.
She's also worth 2 billion quid.... so is taking a job from someone who actually needs it!!!
Anyways... TK etal are missing the point...
There are three types of people who go to the show...
1) People who want to buy a shiny new boat.
2) People who want to get a bargain on boaty tat... or learn enough to order some boaty tat on line...
3) People who want a entertaining day out looking at shiny stuff.
Number three is the biggest bit nowadays...
And its NOT the shows primary responsibility to target number 1 and 2....
There primary responsibility is to make money.... and they make money by 1) Selling stalls... and 2) Admission....
So when they are doing their marketing its about getting all three types in the front door... not just type 2..... and its about selling stalls...
So a celeb is the only choice.... all the number 1's and 2's are already committed... its the number 3's that count.... and they dont give a ****e about RKJ or some other worthy beardy types.
that would be good... someone like him showing how to feed four on a single burner rolling around at 45degs.
I saw Bernie and his missus in a swanky restuarant in Milan once... he is, erm, how shall we say... vertically challenged, especially with his wife standing next to him

I suspect that if you add up the total annual sailing budget of all of the sad old gits that infest this forum and compare it with the potential mobo purse of a couple of Tamara's dad's mates in F1, we would come out the losers.
If TP had been the only exhibitor and the paparazzi had an invite to a photo shoot, they would be there. This is just another gimmick by Excell to try to save the life of a dying event. Let it die I say.
Just to add to this, the above web site says attendance was down 12% in the first three days, the first weekend.
Attendance was down at SIBS last year as well - 9% according to the organisers...
I'm interested - why would you/we wish for a sailing "event" to die?? Most people here have said they wouldn't wish to go, but why would we actively want it to close down????
