I agree about this being one of the best blogs on youtube, but I can't help thinking that this project will not get finished, not thru determination or ability but by the financial burden on one person. I cannot even begin to imagine the cost of the rigging and sails let alone all the other equipment and gear needed.
I hope he proves me wrong though and I wish him well.
He seems to have engendered enormous goodwill. It’s one of only 2 YouTube begging bowls I’ve contributed to and I really look forward each new vid. His production on those gets better.
As he’s never called me a freeloader for watching his videos I too contribute.
He WILL finish as he has never declared an unrealistic cost or timescale and he can and does go off and find work. Plus as mentioned he has massive goodwill from his increasing number of followers. You only have to read the comments.
The videos where he came back to some West Country boatyards were breathtaking. I had no idea we still built traditional pilot cutters!
This particular video was I reckon way over most peoples heads, mine included, but the time just flew by and I just sat there going “how does he know that?”
He must have had a brilliant teacher to add to his natural skill set.
Me too! I've watched all of the series recently while convalescing and sent a few pounds. I won't buy much in the form of OAK for framing, but it might give him a week's groceries or some beer for his band of occasional helpers. Every little helps.
Love it. The films are regular and very well put together. I'm sure this adds to a very good business plan. Don't doubt his commitment, the funds will be there to finish, but how long can an individual truly spend on one project away from friends and family. I think its been a year so far, quite remarkable the work done on ones own, but how many man hours to finish, this could run for years and years.
The guys got a HUGE following! If you look at how many video hits he gets after each post compared to say sail life, he's really caught people attention.
Last one left me behind somewhat too, but look forward to the next installation.
