Back in September I posted about a Tall Ships Voyage and had not one reply. But anyway I've just returned from a trip from alongside HMS Belfast, out through the Thames, along to Poole and across to St Malo.

The Thames is fascinating - I guess lots of you have sailed it and seen these things, but seeing open for us, passing through <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ethedo-press.co.uk/FileStore/Thamesbarrier.jpg>the Thames Barrier and the this, except this was next day and on the upper topsail.

Very highly recommended!

Doing it already. Going through Biscay and heading South next month on a three - masted square rigger. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.

Thats a great run, only ever done it on power boats, so not so much time to look at scenery as you would have had, keep the pic and info up. there may not be many replays but you can bet it has been read by many.

Good stuff yardarm. Wish I was young again would love to sail on a tall ship. Great pictures. Lived close to Tower Bridge all my life and only started appreciating such things recently. Have fun

Althorne - I'm not that young! There was a guy aged 74 on our trip, who still managed to climb the rigging and cross over the platform and back down. I was up on the platform helping people up and over cos I'm a bit of an old hand. You should have seen the proud happy smile on his face.
I will have some more pics - there was a pro photographer on the voyage who's going to send us his CD. Might be a while though, I'm off next Saturday sailing in Greece (new thread about to begin).

Hi Rachel, a good friend of mine was on that trip with you but as he is not due home until Thurs. I've not had a chance to hear all about the trip.Hope you can post some more Photos.

Sorry I haven't replied, I've been away in Greece sailing the Blue Cup (see separate thread). And I hadn't realised I could get my user options to send me mail when there was a reply to my post.

The ship was <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tallships.org/document.asp?cat=693&doc=6823>the Prince William</A>.

Ted, who was your friend on the voyage? We all get to know each other quite well over the days, more so with those on the same watch. PM me if you'd prefer.

Welcome home Rachel, you are making us all jealous with all this fabulous sailing that you get. My friend's name is Keith I don't know what watch he was on but he serves on these ships regularly and I think belongs to the Derby branch that heips to support these training ships. Like you he gets lots of sailing in all through the year and has a great time.

there's something very special about sailing under square rig and there are more opportunities than most people imagine. libby purves regularly writes about her trips on a dutch ship. i have been on the Lord Nelson several times. you can even go transatlantic on the Tenacious.
