Whats happened to the new Port of Falmouth Marina????

I was offered a berth there a couple of years ago at Sibs.... at some ludicrous price....... and told it would be open by now.....

I see on the web site that there has been no news since 2008......

I emailed them in June to ask about visitors berths and pricing and received the reply

"Sorry we have not built it yet. Should be up and running for 2010 and we will have good visitor berths then."

As a result we spent 2 nights on the outside of Pendennis before moving up river.

Held up re, dredging by the various departments, as the 13 legged ( Only lives in this habitat) Rag worm found a home there.

permission to dredge the channel is at this moment going through the legal bits, should be through later this year if all goes well.

we were in Falmouth last week and it looked like there were couple of cranes and rigs working in the area where the new marina is due to be - perhaps they've made a start ! Will be a while before useable !!

What do you think this new marina will be like when its finished, Is it in a good location and well sheltered? We're thinking of moving to the West Country in a year or two and will be looking for a new base.

my understanding is that permission to dredge was all fine and dandy, but that no permission to dump had been applied for.

Local rumour gathered from a local rag was that there was a problem caused by the port being designated as a storage site for explosives or some such and that further development in the area was on hold. It was fascinating to see all the marina details in Reed's complete with pontoon designations and nothing on the water but, water.

It's a H&S thing, bought up by our new super council. It came up when they said they could not deveolpe the old pub behind Pendenis. Carrick council forgot to do a H&S check, and now due to storage in the docks they cannot develope the pub. the student flats built in the docks should not have been allowed for the same reason. So not sure how the marina will stand with this H&S thing now.

The dredging is the main channel and docks for cruise liners, funding been on and off for sometime, now moving on again.

Anyone know what boats they are looking at for the marina ? at one time not long ago, the rummer was super yachts, or at least up-market.

As the others say - loads of reasons to delay!

Chap I met was supposed to be working on the 'steelwork' but his workflow is non-existent and he can't seem to get a clue as to when/if it will start.

If being near Pendennis Shipyards is a clue (builders of superyachts - I've been over a couple recently and believe me, they are "super") then mere mortals will not be able to afford their rates and maybe they won't want boating riff-raff (such as me in our ickle-old-boat) anywhere near them!
