following on from FC's whereisit.... is anyone going to coordinate some ditch-crawling this summer?

I would love to do some accompanied ditch-crawling. Am not confident or knowledgeable enough by myself and I know someone tried to coordinate some efforts the year before last. I am determined to be more organised this year and would love to join in if someone wants to put the dates in the diary.... either in company or as crew... :D

Quite happy to show you round the southern wastelands....

that would be great. I can't remember who it was that suggested it before, but I liked the idea of creeping up somewhere and then 'walking' ashore for a bbq in company before sneaking back before the tide came in!

Lisa , I have always fancied visiting Rowhedge / Wivenhoe and staying overnight
With a nice meal in a local pub .

As we both have similar size twin legged craft I'm sure we could arrange a w/e away , hopefully others who are less depth challenged would join us aswell .

What you think ....

The last time I picked up a fore and aft mooring opposite Wivenhoe one of the adjacent boat owners didn't seem very happy about it and got quite unpleasant before he decided to row off. Personally I'd want to check that I was indeed welcome before attempting that again!

However, IIRC, visitors are now welcome to moor alongside the yacht club's pontoon just downsteam of the flood barrier. Also a few navigational tips can be gleaned from this thread http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=294985

Wivenhoe sailing club has some drying pontoons - walk on walk off access
Selection of restaurants but may need to book except Indian, several pubs, Black Bouy, Rose and Crown and more locals Greyhound and Station
Rowhedge you can tie up along the quay - agins dries - Albion is a good beery pub, the Anchor better for food

Ok , so maybe when it's closer to
The time and we have a plan we should contact the sailing club and ask if they can accommodate 2,3,4 yachts for a overnight stay on their pontoon .

I had also wondered about going round sheppey , I reckon that might be interesting - havengore anyone

yes, I've been building up to a Havengore trip too.

Thats part of the Southern Wastelands trip I alluded to earlier.
If the weather is good enough, we can anchor/get stuck on the Artificial Island and watch the birdies and have a BBQ for a tide.
