Motoring down the river out of Newhaven this afternoon, I looked behind me and there, floating about 30-40 yards away, was one of my fenders. Before I could even start to turn, a jet-skier appeared out of nowhere at a fast rate of knots, swept up my fender onto his lap and roared off upriver without a backward glance. Nothing I could do to chase or identify the b******. Don't it make you want to !!!!!!!.

Goodness me Admiral Rabbie! You mean to tell me that the boundah got away scott free with your fender? /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

You really should keep the old blunderbuss closer to hand and fully loaded if this sort of thing is to continue to happen with such frequency!
Both barrels aimed at their retreating rear will normally make them stop, no matter what speed they race off at...... don't like it up 'em you know? But the trick is to ensure that although you might pierce them, you don't pierce your fender which they are momentarily holding onto! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Let that be a lesson to you. Never travel with fenders dangling. Make sure they are in the cockpit locker as soon as poss.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

i would chuck another fender over the side with 100 feet of line atached to someting very solid! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Is retrieving Flotsam classed as theft? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Different interpretations

Here and

Here

I have always understood Flotsam to be bits unintentionally lost at sea which are either floating or washed ashore while Jetsam to be bits intentionally thrown over board to lighten a vessel for whatever reason and are either floating or washed ashore while Lagan (or Ligan) was those bits that sank to the sea bed (usually buoyed for later recovery) - one lives and learns......wondeerful place these forums (or is it fora?). /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

In this case the fender wasn't lost at sea, it had only just fallen off so was not flotsam.

The previous post like this was surprising in that it was another yacht that stole the fender. I must admit that when I read this was a jet skier my thought was 'Well, what do you expect from a jetskier?' before I remembered that I have enjoyed those dreaded contraptions in the past and what would a jet skier want with a fender anyway?

Of course we all know jet skiiers are mind readers and knew it was yours. Personally I think it's your fault for not looking after your fender in the first place. He obviously just saw it floating and took it. His telepathy must have been turned off that day.
I guess you'll tie them on properly next time? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just read through these posts and decided to send myself a memo to remember that I should never post on the forum when I'm looking for sympathy and moral support! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Never mind Admiral.... I'm with you on this one! But just make sure you get the boundah next time! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dangly fenders are not my usual habit when out for a sail, but this was just a half hour potter down the river before returning to my pontoon.
