taking down and selling a wooden mast

OUCH
it is to big a job the rigging alone will be more weight than the mast. I along with most on here thought oh its a typical mast but no
I'd be suprised if they allowed any one to lower a mast of that size with in reach of other boats
On one of my old trawlers I dropped a mast simply by cutting it into sections but there were no other boats or people at risk.
That would be the only option I could see in this case
fit rachet straps one above one below a point on the mast join them both with another strap tighten all straps then cut through the mast just enough to keep it standing then winch the top off. It will drop but only as far as the ratchet straps allow two or three goes it would be down. You would need to fit extra side stays lower down the mast or the thing might dicide in a gust of wind to crash side ways !
Even on the colvic which has a 34ft mast, lowering it is complicated as you must keep it dead inline because it would soon twist, I made up a gin pole out of steel tube and use a chain hoist but even so my misses doesn't enjoy the task !
