Taking an 80' Benetti Eastwards across the Pacific

Re: Taking an 80\' Benetti Eastwards across the Pacific

thanks byron for the thoughts
to clear up the confusion, I did mean 400 miles not litres. I have to keep a minimum of 4000 litres in the tanks for stability reasons, which was the advice of the naval architects who conducted a stability test before we left Majorca 2 years ago.
Regarding stresses, the boat is a steel hull and in pretty good shape - we are doing some ultrasonic tests at the moment to check the thickneses and have a small panel to replace on the bow, but we have covered 16,500 miles so far from Majorca, admittedly in reasonable conditions most of the time(with the exception of the Arabian Sea in July-never again!), but the last 4000 miles from Bali have all been to windward, which whilst not too comfortable have not been too bad.
Unfortunetly my owner has a side bet on with one of his mates who reckons the trip can't be done and so it falls on me to prove his mate wrong! Still if it really does look too dodgy, we will ship it.

Re: massive fuel load

hi jfm
she's a slow heavy displacement traditional benetti(gross tonnage 100 tons, deadweight 155 tons fully tanked up) and with full tanks she does drop about 6" in the water - but she does ride better with full tanks.
