Hi All,

Has anyone had an experience of taking a dog as crew across to Holland (and back!)?

The regulations seem a bit confusing and the reality is often very different.

I have two dogs, and have followed several discussions on here as I'd quite like to do the same. The answer seems to be that your dog must return to the UK via a recognised carrier; that is, on a ferry. There doesn't seem to be a problem with taking your dog to Holland, but returning it requires a) that the dog meets all the UK requirements (I think that includes worming by a vet within some short number of days before return) and b) That it returns via a commercial carrier with facilities to check microchips and veterinary documents such as Pet Passport or whatever it's called now.

I also understand that only one ferry company allows pets to accompany foot passengers.

we last took our dog with us to holland in 2017 and what you say above is exactly our understanding - jazz went home with some of the crew by car and had the necessary to comply with the rules worming done by a dutch vet the specified time before the ferry home - all went very smoothly - no issues with her in france or holland at any port
