Take em to the lounge

They are contentious images, that's why this thread exists. "Smut" is not "incidental" if it offends others.

The reasonable use of the internet for personal reasons at my place of work is accepted; the viewing of material liable or likely to cause offence to others is not.

Why do you feel you are in a position judge the morality of my use of the internet at my place of work?

Is this a troll?

Agree, but this is blatently not a business problem, it is a person ashamed of being overseen by his peers, viewing something that is extremely inapropriate in his work place.
The thrust of my argument is that he is being employed and paid to be working for the benefit of his employer rather than wasting time and resources supplied and paid for by someone else.
The litmus test of my arguement is put this to his employer and the employers response would decide.

I've had this 'discussion' previously with Lakesailor. The Moderators moderated, and we agreed a course of action whereby we didn't go legal.

I still don't think ybw is a site where semi nudes need to appear

I'm not a prude, but there are plenty of sites you can find those if you wish. I don't wish them to appear here.

Read my post
You know what to expect from Lake Sailor
So dont look or join in
I have never had any conversation with LS and I may or may not agree with his postings but my point is if youre of a fragile moral view then dont view LS postings using someone elses computer in someone elses building using someone elses BT line and Electric and still claim wages and employers contributions and try to have the high ground.
I think theft of time or resources is absolute and cant be excused whereas titilation is a decision to be resolved with your mentors.

Noted you have chosen to ignore my comments.
On reflection please answer my comments.
Refuse to continue whilst you control agenda
Please reply to my comments then we can continue conversation

So, your argument is;

Accept and enjoy smut on IPC's yachting forums or you are a Latitudinarian puritan and don't steal from your employer (of whom you have no idea concerning any arrangements in place, but does not stop you reckoning something eh?)

Are you tripping?

Try restating your comments. I'm not ignoring them. They probably weren't worth my time responding to them the first time around, so can't guarantee I'll bother this time either.

Sir
Have no idea what you mean
"Latv" what is that
but if you mean " If you don't pay, You cant play"
You are damn right
What is the moral question
You answer
Theft of time (irreplaceable)
Theft of resources (possible but messy)
Please go back to first question.
I Note all the prurient "hollier than thou answers" but LS doesnt mean harm he is just giving an alternative view, and for that he has my support

Oh Brendan
Why do you take such a hard arse view.
Just answer the points I made and then we can continue this conversation.
Because you are ducking the issue I know I am ahead

This is the New Labour argument
Go back over this post and read them.
Theft of time and resources is a clue
Please do not use prevarication as a method of argument.
Just answer the question. Simple really

Did you once post as GC1 or Happy1

No smilies, but the posting style is similar. Just answer the question, is Gludy, but this is not one of his posts.

Does Alistair Cambell write your scripts.
I am exactly who I say I am.
Obfusscation is a very poor tactic for a person of your intellect.
Stand your ground and argue your stance.
I think I am winning because you continue to blur the edges and refuse to argue the pertinent and salient thrust of my reasoned response

Took the time to google what you said:
1 Its a load of bollocks
2 Its a contradiction of terms (how can a puritan behave like that) Putz
3 I am an employer, why do you think I am upset by theft in the workplace.
4 If employees realised the debt they had to their employers the world would be a better place. " Who do you think ultimately pays the mortgage ; "The Drones or the Risk takers"
5 "The Drones or the Risk takers" Subject for tomorrow should be interesting

1. A smart person once advised me, "Don't post when pished."

2. This is a yachting forum. If you want to post non-boaty tits n ass pictures, there's the lounge, so what's the big deal?

3. My arrangement with my employers is flexible. I'm available to resolve issues 24/7, so they don't give a monkey's if I spend some time during the normal working day on non-work issues. However, they do have written disciplinary procedures regarding the access of offensive materials on company computers. A yachting forum isn't one of those, but tits n ass shots are.

If there was a consensus that it's OK to have those pictures in here, then I'd already said that it was OK with me. However, 47% of those who responded to Cliff's poll (to put it in ad-speak, 55% of those who expressed a preference) reckon the lounge is the place for that kind of stuff, so there isn't such a consensus.

The photos may cause offense to some viewers - this is an open forum so there are significant number of viewers who don't post or perhaps are not even registered.

My view is that the photos are not appropriate - the more recent ones seem to have been lifted from sites whose aim appears to be sexual arousement by displaying erotic photos. Why these photos would be deemed appropriate to post on a boating forum is beyond me. This view seems to be shared by a significant number of viewers whilst there are also a similar number who don't agree.

To the comment about just looking away if you don't like it is ill thought out - the pictures take up a significant proportion of the users screen and it isn't like ignoring someones written word.

What then becomes acceptable? how much flesh is "allowed" to be displayed? is this measured as a % of pixels of the whole picture? Do the rules really need to be defined that tightly? Can the poster not excersise reasonable judgement?

Agree with that, but the problem is when LS plonks a random backside in the middle of a perfectly sensible thread.

Anyway, the point of making a rare post.....

I hugely value the stuff I read here from a wide variety of people - I don't post because I don't feel I can add much value (and I find it gets addictive). I'm allowed a reasonable amount of personal web usage at work and I choose to use that 'perk' to read PBO and SB. I don't read the Lounge at work because a) I don't have time to read everything and b) I know that there is a chance of something flashing up that might offend people around me.

As a non-poster I don't want to comment on the rights and wrongs of posting such images in SB - if a policy has been agreed with Keith and the majority of regular posters agree with it, then I have no right to disagree. But given LS's staunch defence of his position, I can only assume such images will continue to appear. So, with sadness because I really value his boaty postings, I've got to put LS on ignore - assuming I can find the function, since I've never used it before.

Obviously it isn't just LS who posts such things, but I'm hoping it will solve most of my problem and allow me to continue to gain the huge benefits of being an extensive reader of the forums.

Brittany, Delta or CQR?

And how much chain should I have on a mixed chain/rope rode. I have ten metres, but some people go for fifteen, while I know a chap with as little as six.
