There is a dangerous very deep hole right next to the bank approx 100m downstream of Abingdon bridge. I fell into this today and nearly broke my leg! The hole is at least 4' deep, I could get my boathook right down it. It's on the starboard side facing upstream. Located just where the mooring rings end. We've notified the local authority so hope this gets dealt with!

That's why there are no moorings rings.

This is the first account of too much water in the River (apart from flood conditions) that I have ever seen.
Amazing....

I suppose if it is outside of the signed mooring area then it is 'caveat boater'.but what about if a member of the non boating public fell the hole.

Its a river bank they are usually full of holes? Abingdon council stopped charging for moorings years ago, one reason may have been so that they were no longer liable to maintain the banks, there is a footpath but the holes are away from that.
Its definitely a hazard but if they fill one hole where do they stop?

Yes thats a good point.

Still dangerous and I wouldn't say the riverbanks a full of holes. OK so there is erosion but this is usually quite obvious. Holes behind bank protection are a bit more dodgy in my opinion.
