does anyone know why Tacktick are saying their new 'entry level' t033 wind instrument is suitable only for boats up to 35 feet?
(it has a battery powered wired display rather than a solar powered one)

i can understand a limit on mast height, but boat length?

is it just a marketing ploy so that i think that my boat at 38' is too big for their 'cheaper' product?

thanks

the frequency that Tacktick use has a wavelength

of less than 33ft. Thus the boat, which acts as its own internal aerial by half-wave reflection, must be less than 33ft, otherwise you get spurious signals.

In effect Tacktick use point to point transmission, and reception of the radio signals used by the instruments is modulated by many variables, such as atmospheric moisture, the stream of ionised particles from the sun (called solar wind), physical obstructions such as masts, shrouds, aluminium toe rails, and time of day, and cause degradation of signal.

This,of course, does not apply to boats measured in metres.
