Tack tick MN-100-2 wind instrument not pairing with masthead

Mine seem to change the master when in use by which ever is switched on first, it then switches on the others. Did confuse slightly when original setting up as you tend to have the one to be added on playing with the others off. I needed to read the process a few times before it clicked

Agree, but only the single and dual displays can be masters, not the wind, nor the remote... When you switch on using one of those the master switches to one of the single or dual displays

I had the same question when mine was suffering with connecting, tech help said that they had to be placed close to each other when searching for I think 60 seconds, difficult unless up the mast. They say option is but it in a bag, set to search and quickly hoist up on halyard. As long as you haul quick should work.
I have a couple of MN-100 from TackTick and from Raymarine (MN-100-2). They system was working very well for a long time but when I returned to the boat after the Covid Lock Down, one MN-100-2 was not pairing anymore with the other units and instead of giving the speed or the voltage it just displays 2 or 3 dashes. Of course, I downloaded the manual and tried all kind manipulations and various settings, but I could not get the MN-100-2 to join other units. I kept them close together (less than 30 cm), waited 60 sec until it joins. The unit was scanning for networks, but it did not find or link to the existing network. Do you think that my MN-100-2 is broken and needs to be replaced?

Hmmm, it's difficult to say... What do the Health Options say? It should tell you by paging through what's going on. If you have no battery or charging symbols, that would be an issue to me. Have you gone through the Options menu and tried the Factory Reset (RSet)? That would be my first step.

Please pardon my ignorance. A mate of mine has asked me to get his windex working with his MN 100-2. The rechargeable batteries were bad in the windex and I've replaced them and they now fully charge. However the display has dashes for the wind speed and points due north. I've looked for a manual to see how to pair the two if needed but have come up empty. Kindly advise.

They need to be within 30cm of each other to pair. You set up pairing on the display then bring it close to the windex and they should pair within a few seconds.

I came up with a few links to the manual just now by googling (for the MN-100) so hopefully that should give you the details.

After battery replacement in the wind transmitter you will deffo need to re-pair it. If it's already back at the masthead, you can get around it by making sure one of the instrument heads is unmounted, and what you then do is stick the head into pairing mode, put it into a pre-prepared bag and smartly hoist it to the masthead... wait for a few minutes, lower it back down again...

Remo,
I had similar issues, see previous posts. In the end Paul from PT marine was kind enough to step in and offer some help. As I recall he reset the whole system and started from scratch, which worked a treat. He’s based in Brighton but he may be willing to advise over the phone if you are not local to him. I found him very helpful and he didn’t even charge me for his time. Let me know if you would like his contact details

This is turning into a saga of throwing money at a problem an making it worse but last year I asked our usual yard to replace our tacktick display and masthead transmitter as one was cracked with unreliable batteries and the other had seized. In their wisdom they only replaced the masthead transmitter and just charged the batteries of the display which worked perfectly for about 2 hours before dying for good.
Rechargeable batteries don't last forever, and you knew them to be unreliable, so the yard's decision just to charge them is astounding. If you still have the unit, it should be a simple task to open it up and change the batteries. Given what what has been said about the display only coming to life when paired, maybe your original unit (when re-powered) would work when given the same 'bag up the mast' treatment.

If you are trying to pair two displays i.e add a display to the network, the display that is already on the network needs to be turned off, whilst running the auto join sequence on the new unit.
