Tablet for Navionics

I went through this investigative process myself a few months ago, and in the end decided that if you are just running Navionics then ANY Android tablet will do that, make sure it has a built in GPS, but of prime importance in my view was battery life. So I ended up with a Lenovo Yoga 3 8inch tablet and when only running Navionics with the hardware GPS on and location services off (what's the point at sea), WIFI off, bluetooth off, then the battery will last around 18 hours. I also run MX Mariner because you can get the Raster UKHO charts really cheaply so complements the Navionics vector ones very well. I used to also run Memory Map but it's too flakey, freezes etc.. so ditched that.

Tesco no longer sell them. Mine packed up after about a year and so did many others. If yours has lasted longer than that, you're lucky.

S'funny, nobody has yet mentioned the Tesco HUDL. Works fine for me.

I would imagine, particularly for an older person, a big screen would be important.

After the advice here and talking to other people Have bought Bill the Samsung Galaxy tab E. Screen size is great so he can spend the next few months on board connected to the marina wifi and get to grips with his new 'hurdy gurdy machine'.

In terms of accuracy, I find my Bush 8" tablet running Navionics is excellent. A few months ago I was trying to get into Gedser Marina in the Danish Baltic. The main ferry port to Gedser has lit buoys but the marina which is a mile around a very twisty corner and depths around 2 metres has unlit piles and buoys. No moonlight or ambient light that night at 0100 hours and single handed my navionics and bush tablet was able to get me to each pile or buoy sufficient so I could see it a couple of metres in front of me so I was able to enter the marina without touching the bottom even though I draw 1.8 metres. It was blowing F7 and I was not keen to find myself aground being pushed further up the mud. I was very surprised at the accuracy of the GPS.
