Hi all
Does anyone know anything about Tab Roller Reefing systems? I bought a boat last year with one fitted and am unsure how to go about dismantling it to replace the forestay. Is it a simple process?Ive had a good look on the internet and it would appear that they dont have a website, they may not even be in business. Is there anyone out there that has a similar setup and could give me any clues as to its durability, im even considering upgrading to a furlex or profurl.
Thanks

Hi -my Hillyard is fitted with TabT5 furling gear. She was remasted and rerigged last summer. No great difficulty taking the gear apart and putting it back together again. As a furler it works fine. I've no plans to change it.

I think Tab went out of business a while back.

I put two on my last boat when I built her, 44ft cutter.
They were very good, Tab are I think out of sailing gear now.
The main thing re taking it apart, as I recall, the black tube on top of the drum is held on by 4 studs. When these are taken out, the tube lifts exposing the bottle screw, and a norseman terminal.
The forestay can then be with drawn. BUT, BEWARE, there are bushes in the foil to stop the forestay rubbing on the foil, so arrange a messenger so that you can draw the forestay back down the foil and through these spacers/bushes.

Having used their 'in mast furling conversion' with little success in the past (we ended up ripping it off and getting a new fully battened main made) - I can't say I'm surprised!!

Incidentally - anyone want a used furling mainsail for a Westerly Tempest?

Nor me. Dreadful.

Can the forestay roller be taken apart while there is still tension in the rig? I think a bush/bearing may have gone, so need to pull it apart to check.
