The purchase is finally complete; handover Tuesday afternoon; much to my son's disgust (he will be at an A level revision class!) I've recruited a mate to accompany me on the maiden voyage across the vast expanses of untamed ocean between Wargrave & T&K.

Mini-keg of Loddon Brewery Hoppit at the ready.

Mooring F29 reserved for AKAMAS......

Anyone else at T&K?

Cheers

Simon

Brayman moors there but WHATEVER YOU DO do NOT give him any of your Loddon Brewery Hoppit as he is deadly allergic to beer. He may protest that it is not so, just to avoid hurting your feelings, but do not pay any heed to his protestations.

Thanks for the heads-up Paul: I'd hate to be the new boy who poisons one of the locals ......

Wargrave to T&K

Hope the journey up from Wargrave went without hitch.
Look forward to catching up with you

Absolutely splendid thanks.....and a real eye-opener:-

* 2 1/2 hrs to do a 15 minute drive......utterly relaxing :-)
* Perfect entrance to Shiplake Lock (despite the stress levels and dry mouth!) so delighted as a real newbie
* Met a very nice couple from Sunbury whilst waiting at Sonning: apologised in advance for my slow progress, of which they were extremely understanding.
* Complete mess at Sonning and finally moored thanks only to the lockie lending a spare pair of hands, both to pull my rear in on arrival as well as to push me away on exit :o........and some titters from other owners coming the other way.
* Perfect mooring at T&K much to my (and friend's) suprise!

It was a delightful way to spend my first few hours on the river. Once my son came over later on, we just did a loop to Reading then back to Sonning without going through locks.....amazing how pretty the Cemetary Juntion area is from the river!!

Wonderful....just wonderful.....cant wait till the weekend!

Congratulations, I will look out for you on the river and at HP.

Martin

Thanks Martin.....just look for the one zig-zagging down the river.

Alternatively just listen out for screams of 'Not like THAT!!!' or 'WHO's stupid idea was this ANYway?'

I expect overnight stays at T&K once Post-Maritime Stress sets in :-)

T&K

Should be there some time over next weekend so wil try and pop round and say hello. We are on B pontoon.

Keep practising the locks. You will soon get the hang of it. You will still muck it up now and again, usually when there is a big audience, but don't fret, we all do that from time to time.

T&K/HP

Turned out that the big world is a small place.....we have a business connection via HP and shared a coffee whilst I was in the process of buying.

One small moment that made me wince (but chuckle): when my wife and I were walking the dog at Sonning last weekend we stopped for a chat with the lockie who has always been so cheerful. I mentioned the imminent arrival of Akamas and that I'd like to spend some time going through the lock to practice (which he was fine with).

He went on to explain that he once had a boat himself but sold it after 3-4 years through lack of use. Quote ' People say boats are holes into which you throw money!!'.........cheers, mate: SWMBO has been complaining about the 'investment' from day one LOLOL....you REALLY helped me out with that one-liner :o

Hi Simon

How did you get on today?
I was out on the river yesterday afternoon and I was surprised how empty it was.

I saw your boat, looks a real beauty

Hi Russ...

Lovely weekend, thanks. Saturday went up through Reading Lock and on beyond Rivermead then back to Sonning and finally T&K....just such fun and genuinely a delight to get some time with my son away from pc/X-box/I-phone/Messenger. He has really taken to boating and already his steering/mooring skills are surprising.

Today, as you know, the Weather Gods were not on our side but still fun with friends visiting. Had a run up to Shiplake and back, SWMBO supplied a Cream Tea (is this a faint light at the end of the tunnel as she starts to enjoy the 'investment'?). Just spoiled by crappy weather.

ALMOST mastered reversing into the mooring at T&K: this way its much better for the dogs to get on easily via the bathing deck, rather than picking up 35kg of labrador and trying to climb through the side! Our new puppy also arrived last week and we took him with us: he's destined to be a Sea-dog as he's twice been out on the boat and hasnt even had his vaccinations/been to a park yet!

My son was very impressed by your boat....took a wander over this morning when we went to refuel....look forward to us meeting in due course.

Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon

As much as I love my boat (and I do) I doubt your son was looking at mine :)

Glad the dogs have taken to it well, my dog absolutely loves being out on the boat.

The local carnival is on this weekend so my boating will probably be limited to Sunday afternoon. Hopefully get away for the full weekend in a couple of weeks.

Cheers

Russ
