Seeking forum views, good or bad, on the quality/finish/cost of the following synthetic teak decking:

- Permateek

- Flexiteek

- Dek King

Many thanks!

Thanks, MrB, for pointing that thread out. A good discussion on Flexiteek and passing mention of Permateek.

Anyone else out there with thoughts?

There was an article not so long ago in one of the yachting mags giving details of prices . I am sure some other forumites will be along soon to point you in that direction. If you are interested in DIY fitting I recently saw vid involving a Canadian couple Shaun plus 1 was his name I believe and if you look for sailing videos you might some interesting info via YouTube or Vimeo . Personally I havehad Flexiteak for 2 years or so and very happy with it. Ours was fitted from new but I have seen the installers retrofitting to new Hanse down at Hamble Point . I think the best way to research this though is to have a look around at SBS as I suspect all suppliers you mention would be present . You could take a chance and visit . If you are down that way maybe have a look at some used boats which might have it. The only issue to my mind is keeping any real teak capping or hand rails maintained to colour match by Seemco treatment .

Flexiteek for me, it’s very maintenance free and always looks as good as real teak, I can’t comment on the heat issue as never had a boat anywhere warm enough for it to be a problem but there’s been a few comments on here recently from Med boaters on the subject.

We are not in hot climate currently although it can become warming in the Jersey harbour bowl. We just have on decks and not on the cabin top though so at least you would not burn your feet packing the mainsail away should you really wish not to wearing your crocs or whatever you use . Sailing in the med with real teak decks we did use to wash down the real teak though to cool it when we're weren't cleaning it so I can see how Flexiteak would have same issue.

Here’s the issue with real .Some synthetic at the end I,am afraid don’t know which is which .
Can,t comment on the heat thing ( even though we are Med based ) as not experienced it .
But no reason doubt the general consenus .
Actually we used to hose down / chuck a bucket on real teak in the Med too with little kids -

Useful comments, thank you.

I notice that Flexiteek and Dek King boast "2G" technology on their website (Permateek does not). "2G" is described as lighter and cooler. Possibly just a sales gimmick?

Has anyone experienced seam splitting problems with any of the three products? The Permateek seems to have its caulking strips all the way through while Dek King's caulking extends about half way into the faux teak.
